I recently took this guitar in trade from a prominent AGF’er and accomplished guitarist who has been recognized as one of the best fingerstyle guitarists both nationally and internationally. The guitars he plays are among the best and this one is one of those. He recently had this guitar listed here on AGF, and his asking price was $7450. After receiving this guitar, I found this week that I have a large (5 figure) check to write that I had not anticipated. So, I have priced this guitar aggressively to help one of you make a solid buying decision easily.
Tonally: This guitar is exactly as you would expect it to be, gorgeous tone and the intonation is spot on. Rein french polishes the tops of his guitars to add to the tonal response of the soundboard. He also compensates the nut to create precise intonation up and down the neck. Just a few of the many things Tom Rein does to create a GREAT guitar! Larry said: “This guitar has an extremely articulate voice, super-clear and concise trebles, and an overall deep resonance that puts it up there with the best builders”
If you aren’t familiar with Thomas Rein, he is considered one of the best classical and acoustic builders in the business. His steel string guitars feature many innovations seldom found on other guitars. One of those is his adjustable neck which means a LOT of things, but most importantly means no neck resets EVER. Here is what his site says about this innovation, two really key benefits being the ability to adjust the neck while the guitar is strung up and in tune, and secondly the elimination of the 14th fret “hump”. Bottom line, more consistent playability.

THE WOODS:
Euro Moon Spruce-Moonspruce is simply a name for spruce that was harvested and handled according to a century-old tradition from the Alp-regions in Europe. Carpenters and luthiers had recognized that wood that was cut under certain conditions, differs from wood that is not cut using the old traditional way of handling. Although many people don’t know the Moon spruce wood by name, it has been used for crafting instruments for some time. Provides a sound rich in overtones, focused, full of nuance and tone color — a sound often preferred by fingerpickers. It offers a quicker response and greater headroom than Engelmann. Harvested at night, based on the cycles of the Moon, this European Spruce variation is a wonderful in-between of Sitka and Adirondack, offering a bright tone with excellent clarity.
Malaysian blackwood- is a species of flowering tree in the family Ebenaceae that is endemic to the forests of Malaysia. Malaysian Blackwood features dramatic mix of chocolate brown wild figuring with reddish streaks. The heartwood ranges from a medium brown to nearly black, commonly with black veining and contrasting brown or reddish streaks and can also have a greenish hue. The grain is generally straight, with a very fine, even texture and good natural luster. A tonewood of extraordinary beauty for its unique colors and the attractive designs of its grain. It is denser than most Rosewoods, with a sustaining and glassy tap tone similar to African Blackwood, tonally very close to ebony with a strong bass and more defined mids. It has become a much favoured tonewood among steel-string guitar builders.
Condition: I know Larry is really particular (or you might say “anal” like I am lol) about the condition of his guitars, and he babies them. This one is in fantastic condition as is the case. In Larry’s original ad, he mentioned some wear on the top, which i was delighted to see was overstated (unusual don’t ya know). The wear he mentioned is simply some light fingernail marks that are NO BIG DEAL. Anyone who wants pictures, i’d be happy to provide.
